A tribute to my father

Why this album?

This tribute album, which honors my father, Carter Stanley, is something that I've wanted to do for a very long time. I was only four-years-old when my Dad passed away and I only have a few memories of him to cling to. I basically was raised by my mother, Mary. My mother told me many stories about my father and his travels. She was a great lady. A big part of this album is a tribute to her, as well. She made many sacrifices and led a very hard life so my father could pursue the music he loved so much.

I grew up listening to the Stanley Brothers long play albums and old 78s. That was the only way I figured I would ever really get to know my father. He wrote so many wonderful songs over his 20-year career with his brother and my uncle, Ralph Stanley. As a child, I would listen for hours at a time and it seemed like I could never get enough of that wonderful old-time mountain music with that haunting blend of lead and tenor vocals and those melodies that seemed to come from ages long past. When I started this project two years ago, my objective was to let the world know what my father and his musical legacy meant to me. This was truly a labor of love. I hope that all the love, admiration, devotion and respect that I feel for my father shines through in this album. I feel my father was way ahead of his time as a songwriter, singer, musician and emcee. I really don't know what I expected when we went into the studio to begin recording this but my Uncle Ralph and I are both extremely pleased with the outcome. This tribute album means the world to me.
